Oil Theft: Aisha Accuses Elumelu of Supporting ‘Last Man Standing
Aisha Yesufu criticizes Tony Elumelu for his stance on oil theft, accusing him of supporting those involved by praising the “last man standing” despite widespread corruption in the sector.
Tony Elumelu’s recent interview with the Financial Times on oil theft in Nigeria was mocked by social critic Aisha Yesufu.
Elumelu was described by Yesufu as being joyous about President Bola Tinubu being the only one left standing, since he never broached the topic of oil theft.
Remembers that during a visit to Elumelu’s home, Tinubu was praised by him in a viral social media video as the “final person standing” when he was still the President-elect.
The hailing appeared to allude to the recent presidential polls, in which Tinubu emerged victorious according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Elumelu expressed his concern about oil theft in an interview granted to the Financial Times.
He suggested that the Nigerian government and security agents should identify those who steal the country’s crude oil, especially when using vessels in territorial waters.
The businessperson expressed their fear of oil theft and emphasized that it played a role in the withdrawal of multinational oil corporations from Nigeria.
In response to Elumelu’s interview, Yesufu noted that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, focused primarily on discussing oil theft during his campaign while Elumelu did not express much interest in this topic.
While Peter Obi focused his campaign on discussing oil theft, Tony Elumelu appeared delighted by the remaining candidate who never mentioned it at all.
“Welcome to the club, anyhow. Eventually, all of us will advocate for good governance,” wrote Yesufu on X.
