An airport cab driver was the victim of an attempted robbery by a 35-year-old passenger, who was apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command.

The arrest was verified by the command’s spokesperson, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to Hundeyin, the taxi driver reported the matter to the Alausa Police Division on June 11 at approximately 1:40 a.m.

He clarified that the driver had stated that on June 11, at approximately 1:20 a.m., he was stopped by the suspect, who was posing as a passenger, while he was using a driving service in the Ajah region near the Chevron.

According to the taxi driver, who he cited, the suspect asked him to take him to a shrine in Agidigbi, Alausa district of Ikeja. They decided on a fare and set off for the location.

He said, “But the Alausa Police Division’s anti-crime squad later arrested him after a heated chase.”

According to Hundeyin, the car was brought to the police along with the suspect, and an investigation was conducted at the time.

In a different situation, he said, a 28-year-old man was arrested for impersonation after he was seen flaunting the uniform of a friend who was serving in Maiduguri.

According to Hundeyin, the phoney soldier was apprehended by Ilemba Hausa Division agents last Friday at roughly 5:45 p.m. while they were conducting a surveillance patrol on Jinadu Street in Ajangbadi.

He claimed that when the suspect was apprehended, he was riding a black, unregistered motorbike and was fully clothed in an army camouflage suit.

According to the spokesperson, the suspect abandoned the motorbike and started running after they spotted the policeman, but they pursued him and took him into custody.

“The army camouflage uniform belongs to his friend, who is a military personnel serving in Maiduguri, according to preliminary investigation findings,” he stated.
