Air Sierra Leone Resumes Direct Flights to Nigeria After 15-Year Hiatus
After a 15-year break, Air Sierra Leone has resumed direct flights to Nigeria, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic and cultural ties between both nations.
Air Sierra Leone has resumed its scheduled flights between Lagos and Freetown after being inactive for more than 15 years.
Air Sierra Leone has partnered with the Nigerian airline XEJet to resume operations in Nigeria.
In addition to offering technical support, XEjet supplies the airline with three operational aircraft for its return to the country.
While talking to journalists on the sidelines of the inaugural flight ceremony at Lagos airport on Wednesday, Edgard Lacle, Air Sierra Leone’s General Manager, expressed his delight about the airline’s return to the country.
Lacle informed journalists that the airline has obtained authorization to operate in the country three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. He assured that as passenger numbers grow, they plan to expand this schedule.
For the first flight to Lagos, the airline CEO stated that their aircraft transported 36 passengers into the country.
He mentioned that the bond between Sierra Leone and Nigeria is robust, particularly regarding trade. Both countries have a shared market, with everyone eager to participate in it.
“The trade is excellent, with tourism playing a significant role and fostering the connection between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.”
“The partnership focuses on technical aspects, with them supplying aircraft. These planes fit well with the market and passenger movement needs. If we observe any changes in the market, we will make adjustments accordingly.”
Additionally, the Chief Executive Officer of XEJET, Iza Emmanuel, refers to the event as a revival of Air Sierra Leo in Nigeria.
He mentioned that the airline was established as a symbol of hope, progress, and resilience for Sierra Leone.
He stated, “After more than 15 years, the Sierra Leonean flag once again soars in the skies. The presence of our dignitaries and guests from Sierra Leone and Nigeria today is a testament to the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation that link our nations. It also reflects our shared vision for growth, connectivity, and opportunity for all our people. We are sincerely honored to have you with us as we celebrate this significant milestone.”
