The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, has provided clarification regarding the payment process for projects and programs implemented by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
In response to media reports concerning a request for payment of grants to vulnerable groups, the AGF emphasized that the Office does not make payments on behalf of MDAs. Instead, allocations are released to self-accounting MDAs in accordance with the budget, and it is the responsibility of these MDAs to implement their projects and make payments for them.
While the Office did receive the payment request from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, it did not carry out the payment. The Ministry was advised on the appropriate payment procedure, which involves processing payments through the affected Ministries as self-accounting entities and sending the payments to beneficiaries’ verified bank accounts.
Dr. Madein reaffirmed her commitment to accountability and transparency in public finance management and urged MDAs to ensure they follow the necessary steps when conducting financial transactions.
