Hon. Philip Agbese, Deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives, along with three other Nigerian lawmakers, were recently inaugurated into the Extraordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament as members of the Pan African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa.

The ceremony, officiated by Hon. Lucia Dos Passos, the PAP’s Acting President, followed elections in various African Union member states and rotation within delegations.
In addition to the Nigerian lawmakers, new members from Benin, the Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Ghana, Lesotho, Mauritania, the Saharawi Arab Republic, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Zimbabwe were also inaugurated.
The Pan African Parliament, also known as the African Parliament, was established to ensure the active participation of Africans in the economic development and integration of the continent.
Comprising of five representatives from each member state, the Parliament aims to exchange ideas and find solutions to the challenges and problems faced by the continent.
With up to 275 members representing the 55 AU nations, the Parliament ensures proportional representation, giving smaller countries equal rights, access, and opportunities to be heard and participate in Africa’s affairs.
