The Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has been freed from Beninese custody.
On Sunday, the contentious protester declared that he was now legally free to leave Cotonou, the capital of the Benin Republic, for Nigeria and other countries.
I’m now free to travel wherever in the globe and return to Nigeria. I’ve complied with all the legal requirements imposed on my bail from a few years ago, and I’m about to return to my native Nigeria.
“I can assure you that I am now free to travel to Nigeria again. There is no longer any legal burden. Despite the fact that I have lived in Cotonou for a while, I can certainly state that I now have the freedom to travel to Nigeria, Adeyemo told the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday.
After a two-year trial by the Beninese government, he was allowed to leave again.
Reports claim that when Adeyemo proclaimed the Yoruba Nation’s sovereignty in March 2021, he stirred up a hornet’s nest.
In addition to urging Yoruba in Hausa/Fulani or Igbo territory to return home, he launched a campaign to drive killer herdsmen and kidnappers out of the South-West states.
However, he left Nigeria in July 2021 when Department of State Services agents broke into his home in Ibadan at night.

At least one person died as a result of the attack, and some of his possessions were damaged.
The DSS asserted that during the raid on his flat, seven AK-47 rifles, pump-action guns, 5,000 rounds of ammunition, charms and other weapons were found.
Later, in August 2022, the Court of Appeal overturned the judgement.
He later tried to leave to Germany but was stopped at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
He was not returned to Nigeria by the Federal Government, which was commanded by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
