Chimaroke Nnamani, the representative for Enugu East in Congress, has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This occurs only hours after the former governor of Enugu was defeated in his candidature for the Senate by Kevin Chukwu of the Labour Party.

In order to overcome Nnamani, who received 48,701 votes, the LP candidate needed to receive 69,136 votes, according to the Independent Election Commission, or INEC.

Since previous LP standard-bearer Oyibo Chukwu was assassinated only days before the February 25 elections, the vote was held on Saturday.

Nnamani responded to the election results with a statement he personally signed on Monday. He did so after speaking with both his supporters and allies.

He had made the decision to resign from the party due to his irreconcilable disputes with the PDP’s national leadership.

Nnamani also pledged to keep working with Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, and renewed their friendship.
