Naja’atu Mohammed, a well-known activist and politician, announced his resignation from partisan politics 72 hours after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naja’atu, who resigned on Thursday from her position as the Director of the Civil Society Directorate in the APC Presidential Campaign Council, met with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday night in Abuja, and swore allegiance to the former Vice President.
In a letter dated January 19, 2023, to Senator Abdullahi Adamu, national chairperson of the APC, Naja’atu stated that the difficulties Nigeria faces compelled her to continue leading the fight for a better nation while maintaining her moral integrity.
“I’m writing to let you know that I’ve decided to leave the All Progressive Congress” (APC).

“I’m also letting you know in this letter that I’m resigning from my position as director of the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s directorate of civil society. “Working with you to help create our beloved country has been a wonderful honor,” she writes in part of the letter.
The activist added that she left partisan politics since there is no ideological difference between the political parties in a second statement she released on Saturday.
“I have chosen to leave party politics after giving it much thought and reflection.
My ideals and views no longer coincide with party politics, I’ve realised.
Our political parties are merely robes that politicians wear to satisfy their own needs and goals at any particular time; they have no ideological distinctions.
She had said, “So as a result, we see politicians shifting from one robe to another whenever it suits them.”
It wasn’t clear, though, whether Naja’atu had joined the PDP or if she just wanted to back Atiku’s campaign for president in the next general elections.
Senator Dino Melaye, a spokesman for the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign, acknowledged Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed’s visit to the PDP presidential candidate on Sunday while discussing a recent event.
Melaye, who was seen with Atiku and Naja’atu in the internet photo of the visit, said the Kano politician will comment on the development once the Atiku/Okowa campaign picks up steam this week.
Additionally, Senator Melaye urged the APC PCC to pay attention to the situation in a separate post on his social media accounts, noting that “exodus of senior APC PCC members will be a daily continuous occurrence from now till the 24th of February.”
