In the Yenizue-Epie community of the Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, a commercial tricycle rider (also known as Keke NAPEP) who fatally stabbed a young person was lynched on Wednesday night.
Douglas Joseph, a 30-year-old community native and father of three, was the teenager in question.
One of the witnesses who talked with DAILY POST claimed they were outside, outside Saptex crossroads in Yenizue-Epie, when they heard the fight between the Keke rider and Joseph.
He said: “He claimed to be traveling from the Opolo village to Kpansia, which should have cost N100, but the Keke rider persisted on charging N150.
“As we were dividing them, we noticed the Keke rider pull out a dagger. We believed it was only done to frighten the kids. But the boy collapsed to the ground when he was wounded while sitting on his lap. The Keke rider was stopped from escaping by onlookers. He hurt someone, but sadly, they died. The Keke rider was killed, and afterward, a mob beat him with various things before lynching him.
The regrettable murder of a young member of the community by a tricycle rider prompted the Bayelsa State Police Command to respond to the tragedy by deploying its Anti Riot Squad to Kpansia and the surrounding area in an effort to restore normalcy.
