According to Nigerian musician Fireboy DML, Afrobeats has surpassed R&B and hip-hop in popularity.

The “Peru” hitmaker clarified that Afrobeats is more than simply a genre—it’s a movement with a rich history in a podcast conversation with Noisey.

But according to Fireboy, his particular style of Afrobeats is distinct.

“As I often say, songwriting is about being honest. Your tale is not required to be told. It might be the tale of another person. It is irrelevant. All that matters is that it’s honest because, when it’s shared, someone will be able to relate to it someplace, he added.

I incorporate that into my rendition of Afrobeats. Afrobeats is renowned for its rhythm, atmosphere, and energy. However, I bring that intent and songwriting vibe. My goal is to make Afrobeats widely known. If you let it, it can be as popular as R&B and hip hop. It’s both a movement and a culture. It has a past. More than ever, attention is being paid worldwide.
