Afenifere, the socio-political organization representing all Yorubas, has warned President Bola Tinubu against shifting blame in response to protests directed at his administration.
Afenifere has stated that Tinubu should not be held responsible for the current situation since he had previously called for a revolution against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Prince Justice Fakiyesi, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere who supports Acting Leader Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the speech delivered by the president failed to tackle the actual problems related to widespread hunger in Nigeria.
Fakiyesi pointed out that Tinubu’s claim of the nationwide protest being politically motivated was hypocritical, as he had done the same thing during Jonathan’s administration.
On Monday, while speaking to journalists, he commented that what is happening now is comparable to the situation during Goodluck Jonathan’s presidency when Tinubu himself called for a revolution or protest. However, despite facing similar and more severe issues presently, he has resorted to laying blame on others.

We always knew that simply requesting a dialogue wouldn’t bring about any changes. His behavior remains consistent and unaltered.
In my opinion, he was compelled to deliver the speech rather than engage in a conversation with others about the specific policy causing hunger.
As he seems unwilling to take accountability or reverse his stance – having implied that it was politically charged – there seemed little room for dialogue.
At the beginning, he stated that subsidy is no longer viable and even encouraged protesting.
He was aware that his policies would spark protests since there have been numerous demonstrations against removing subsidies in the past; being of an advanced age, it’s likely he has witnessed this before.
