AFCON : Tinubu expresses dissatisfaction with the Super Eagles’ performance.
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his desire for the Super Eagles to enhance their performance and excel in the final stages of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
He conveyed this message through the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, who addressed the players via Zoom from Abuja on Wednesday night in Abidjan. Enoh stated that the President was not entirely satisfied with the team’s performance during the group matches.
During a meeting with the President, Enoh shared that Tinubu acknowledged the team’s qualification but emphasized the need for improvement.
The President wanted the players to know that he was closely following their matches and expected them to impress him further now that they have progressed beyond the group stage.
Enoh also mentioned that the President recognized the cautious approach taken during the group stage and anticipated a more impressive performance from the round of 16 onwards. In response, team captain Ahmed Musa expressed gratitude to the sports minister and extended an invitation to the President to witness their matches live, believing it would serve as motivation for the players.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the last 16 of the tournament on Saturday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
