Augustine Eguavoen, the interim coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has called up 23 players for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Among the players listed for the games is Galatasaray’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, who missed the last match against Libya due to injury.

After recovering from an injury, he scored a goal in Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory against Antalyaspor during the Turkish Super Lig match on October 19.

Osimhen also netted the decisive goal in Galatasaray’s derby match against Besiktas on October 28.

Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq is making his return to the Super Eagles team after being away for some time.

The matches against Benin and Rwanda will serve as the final rounds of qualifiers for the AFCON in Morocco next year.

The match-day 5 showdown against Benin Republic at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny is scheduled for November 14, with an 8 p.m. kick-off in Nigeria time. Meanwhile, the match-day 6 game versus Rwanda will be held on November 18 at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

With two matches left, Nigeria leads Group D in the qualifiers with 10 points. This tally includes an additional three goals and three points granted by CAF for their match against Libya that was abandoned.

The Eagles declined to play the game after spending half a day stranded at a remote airport in Libya prior to the match.

The players and officials were stuck for hours at a Libyan airport without access to food or the internet while preparing to participate in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights.

Diplomatic efforts and appeals on social media were necessary for the team to receive clearance to finally depart from Libya.
