Ivory Coast lost two of their group games, which was the biggest home loss in their history and their first loss as an Afcon host since 1984.
The Elephants, one of the better third-placed teams, still have a slim chance of making it to the round of 16.
Emerse Fae, one of Gasset’s coaches, will serve as their temporary leader.
The 70-year-old Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant had their contracts “terminated” by the nation’s football association, which cited “insufficient results.”
