The Nigerian Super Eagles have been stranded at a Libyan airport ahead of their AFCON 2025 qualifier, causing concerns over travel logistics and match preparations.

Twelve hours after arriving in Libya, the Super Eagles remain stuck at Al Abaq Airport.

The chartered ValueJet aircraft was unexpectedly and perilously rerouted to a small airport outside Benghazi as the pilot was finalizing his approach to the Benghazi Airport on Sunday night.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Libyan Football Federation did not arrange for a reception team or any transportation to take delegation members from the airport to their hotel, which is reportedly three hours away in Benghazi.

The NFF arranged for separate vehicles for the team, but their plan was disrupted by the aircraft’s diversion.

The players have decided to stop playing the match because NFF officials are arranging for their return home.

The Super Eagles are set to face Libya on Tuesday after securing a 1-0 win in the first leg last Friday.
