AFCON 2025 Delayed as Club World Cup Schedule Conflicts
The Africa Cup of Nations, or AFCON, which was scheduled to take place in Morocco in 2025 will now take place in January 2026.
Due to conflict with the larger 32-team Club World Cup, the tournament will be postponed by six months.
Although the Club World Cup is slated to be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, AFCON 2025 was originally supposed to take place in June.
Recognising the urgent problem of scheduling conflicts, Veron Mosengo-Omba, the general secretary of CAF, informed the BBC that the AFCON will now take place in early 2026.

Mosengo-Omba raised worries about player welfare and questioned whether it was possible for players to compete in the AFCON and the Club World Cup simultaneously.
“For the men, it is imperative that we ensure the dates we select will benefit the players.”
To do this, we must weigh a variety of factors, consult with our partners, and then finalise [the dates]. Everyone finds scheduling to be a nightmare, according to Mosengo-Omba.
