The prize money for the 2023 Arica Cup of Nations, or AFCON, has been enhanced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The biennial competition winner will take home a cool $7 million.

The two semi-finalists will each receive $2,500,000, while the runners-up will now receive $4 million.

The four quarterfinalists will receive $1,300,000 apiece.

Patrice Motsepe, President of Africa’s football governing organisation, told CAFonline that “CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions.”

“The AFCON Winner’s Prize Money has been increased to USD 7,000,000, a 40% increase over the previous AFCON Prize Money. I have no doubt that a percentage of the prize money will help our Member Associations with their administrative needs, as well as aid in the growth of football and all its stakeholders.

The opening match of the 34th AFCON championships between hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau is scheduled for this Saturday of next week.

The competition closes on February 11th, a Sunday.
