AFCON 2023: Nigerians express their dissatisfaction with the 25-man list, claiming it is detrimental to our local league
Peseiro has announced the squad for the upcoming tournament, consisting of three goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders, and eight forwards.
Leading the defense line is Kenneth Omeruo, who was part of the 2013 AFCON-winning team, along with William Troost-Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Zaidu Sanusi, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Bruno Onyemaechi.
In the midfield, Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will be competing for a starting spot alongside Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Joe Ayodele-Aribo, and Frank Onyeka. The frontmen for the team include Musa, Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Boniface, Sadiq Umar, and Ademola Lookman. The team aims to secure their fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire.
However, some Nigerians have expressed their concerns about the squad on social media, particularly regarding the absence of players from the NPL and the inclusion of certain players who have not been performing well.
Additionally, comparisons have been made to the midfield and defense line of the 2013 AFCON-winning team, highlighting the notable players from that era.
