Advocates for Total Overhaul of PDP Amidst National Chairmanship Discussions – Segun Sowunmi

Segun Sowunmi, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has emphasized the need for a complete overhaul of the party to ensure its stability in future elections.

Speaking at a media briefing organized by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sowunmi expressed his concern over the PDP’s recent electoral losses in three consecutive Governorship elections in Ogun State.

He stressed the importance of restructuring the party’s internal working mechanism to enhance its capacity and efficiency, as well as revisiting its core values and ideology to regain its lost glory.

Sowunmi also highlighted the PDP’s role as a strong opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), providing credible alternative policy options to the present administration. Additionally, he announced his intention to run for the National Chairmanship position of the party.

It is worth noting that the North-Central caucus has been advocating for the constitutional right of the zone to complete its four-year tenure, which ends in October 2025, following the suspension of the party’s former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
