Adeowo’s appointment as the new Baale of Ikorodu is overturned by Lagos court
The appointment of Idris Adeowo as the Baale of Okegbegun in Ikorodu, Lagos, has been overturned by a Lagos High Court.
The installation was deemed unlawful by Justice Adeniyi Pokanu, who handed down the ruling, because it was carried out without the proper authorization.
Adeowo was also forbidden by Pokamu from continuing to pose as Baale of Orija-Okegbegun, according to his edict.
The secret family gathering allegedly held on December 27, 2020, according to the judgement, was illegal, invalid, and had no legal standing.
The executive council of the Lambo branch, Oju Egun Lasunwon, Lasunwon Royal Family, Ikorodu Lagos State, led by Chief Mathew Shodipo, was further declared by him to be in existence and irrevocable by the allegedly extra vires meeting on the same date.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit with the case number 8043GCMW/2021 are Alhaji Solihu Agiri, Prince Jamiu Gbadebo, Chief Nurudeen Fakomaya, and the Olootu of the Lambo branch of the Lasunwon Royal family. Alhaji Gafar Shokelu is the suit’s treasurer.
The respondents are Oba Kabir Shotobi (Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Lagos State), Akeem Shodipo, Jimo Mabogaje, Nurudeen Adenuga, and Idris Adeowo.
As a result, the judge ruled that Chief Nurudeen Fakomaya was the legitimate Baale of Okegbegun, Ikorodu, Lagos State, having been chosen and put in place according to the law.
He issued a perpetual injunction prohibiting the defendants, their solicitors, privies, or anyone acting on their behalf from continuing to act illegally by interfering with the claimants’ day-to-day operations at the Lambo branch of the Oju Egun Lasunwon, Lasunwon Royal Family, in Lagos State.
According to NAN, Mr. Adefolaju Oloko, the claimant’s attorney, requested that the court pay the defendants N5 million in damages.
In the meantime, Mr. Adebisi Ogundipe, the defendant’s attorney, commended the court for its astute decision and asked the court to order that each party bear their own costs.
As a result, Justice Pokanu said, “I have listened to the submissions of counsel on cost; both the defendants and claimants are of the same family, and I order all parties to bear their respective cost in order to encourage their peaceful coexistence.” (NAN)
