Olayide Adelami, the newly appointed deputy governor of Ondo State, claimed on Friday in Owo that his nomination was mandated by God because he had never run for office.
Adelami stated that he was seeking a federal job when Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa unexpectedly nominated him.
This was said by the deputy governor-designate on Friday during a visit to traditional leaders in his hometown of Owo, which is also home to the state’s Owo Local Government Area headquarters.
Following the state cabinet’s dissolution on Wednesday, Aiyedatiwa proposed Olayide Adelami, a former deputy clerk of the National Assembly, to be his deputy, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The Ondo State House of Assembly then confirmed the nomination on Thursday.
Adelami said that the event highlighted the surprising course of his political career.
The Ojomoluda of Ijebu-Owo, Oba Kofoworola Oladoyinbo, and the Olupenmen of Upenmen, Oba Ebenezer Adewumi-Ogunmolasuyi, were also visited by the deputy governor-designate, who began his thank-you tour from the Olowo’s palace, Oba Gbadegeshin Ogunoye.
Oba (Dr.) Ademola Oyinbade, the Oloba of Uso, and Oba Kokumoa Olotupa, the Alale of Idasen, were among the other obas that were visited.
Even though his name wasn’t mentioned among those being considered for the role, Adelami thanked Aiyedatiwa for thinking of him as deserving of it.
He expressed his gratitude for being nominated to the role and thanked the traditional rulers for their support. He also promised to use all of his resources to ensure that the state made significant progress towards development.
“When I was called to be a deputy, I was looking for a federal appointment; I never ran for deputy governor.” I am grateful for this opportunity.
This was made possible by divine providence. To the best of my abilities, I shall serve the people of Ondo State,” he declared.
Together with the governor, the deputy governor promised to work towards the advancement of the state and to mediate any disputes amongst party members.
