On February 8, the EFCC brought the social media influencer before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for an alleged N7.9 million online fraud.
Adedamola Adewale, often known as Adeherself on social media, has warned National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) participants to abstain from engaging in online fraud.
Adewale gave the charge on Thursday at the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, during a sensitization programme, according to a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which identified her as a critical stakeholder in the anti-graft effort.
The model advised the corps members to stay away from crime during the interactive session while instructing them on how to succeed as young people online.
She was cited as saying, “There are endless opportunities on the internet, which you can use to your advantage and harness for financial upgrades, rather than engaging in fraudulent activities and committing crimes.”
“As young adults, we occasionally forget our transgressions and ignore the fact that Karma always wins,”

Adewale also bemoaned the rise in youth crime, saying that it had a negative impact on Nigerians in general.
She said, “Young people from Nigeria are stereotyped as con artists or criminals everywhere they go. Isn’t this a really serious issue? I think you’re experiencing the same emotions as I am right now.
“Nobody is suggesting that using the internet to make money or improve one’s financial situation is immoral, but when it is dishonest and illegal, the victim may suffer great suffering, even death. Have you ever considered yourself a victim? Have you ever considered your parents as victims? Have you ever considered having a complete stranger rob you of all of your life’s savings? That has to be inconceivable!”
She consequently urged the youth to utilise their skills, saying that “the same energy and smarts you put together to scam innocent organisations and persons can be put together to explore money-making opportunities online, such as teaming up with businesses, getting involved in entrepreneurship activities, learning internet trade, making YouTube videos, and earning the same Dollars you struggle to scam people off#.
She asserts that technology has provided young people several chances to realise their ambitions without denying others the chance to live happy, fulfilling lives.
Adewale continued, “You can use your tech talents better by being involved in cybersecurity, you can buy and sell through the internet, and many more. You can be an online writer for producers, both domestically and internationally.
“Thanks to the internet, I can fulfil my dreams of being a comic and an actor. So why can’t you, if I can?
The development occurs more than six months after the social media influencer was re-arrested by the EFCC on February 8 before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for allegedly defrauding N7.9 million online.
On three counts of conspiring to gain money via false pretences, attempting to obtain money through false pretences, and keeping the proceeds of criminal activity, she was hauled before Justice Mojisola Dada.
Although the trial was started on April 18 after the case was postponed, the result is yet unknown.
