Wale Adedayo, the former chairman of the Ijebu-East Local Government, is now free after spending 48 hours at the Ibara Correctional Centre in the Ogun State capital of Abeokuta.

According to OBASDANJO NEWS24, Adedayo was charged with lying in a petition filed by the Ogun State Government, alleging that Governor Dapo Abiodun was misappropriating council monies. Adedayo was arraigned by the police on Tuesday.

In the letter he addressed to previous governor Olusegun Osoba and published to the media with his assertion that the 20 local government chairmen were refused access to their statutory allocations, Adedayo is alleged to have defamed and mocked Governor Abiodun.

Adedayo was charged with making a false accusation and engaging in behaviour that was likely to disturb the peace of the community on two counts on Tuesday when he appeared before Magistrate Adejoke Araba of Magistrate’s Court 2, Isabo, Abeokuta.

Adedayo entered a not guilty plea in the case with the case number MA/429C/2023.

He was then given a bail bond for N2 million with two sureties for the same amount.

According to the Magistrate, the sureties must own land that is subject to the court’s jurisdiction.

Adedayo was remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre on Tuesday, though, as a result of the delay in fulfilling his bail requirements.

Due to the federal government’s declaration of a vacation to honour Eid el-Maulud, he was unable to be released on Wednesday.

On Thursday, when he announced his release, he said he had pledged to uphold the truth, no matter how unpleasant it may be.

Olodumare is dependable. He’s never stumbled. And He is infallible. Omo Olofin Ogbolu has been eliminated despite the plotting and calculated attempts. We won’t give up. We won’t retreat. He wrote on his Facebook page, “Awa ti se ileri f’Olorun awa wipe an o se otito o, bi o ti le koro!”

According to OBADSANJO NEWS24, Adedayo would make another court appearance on October 20, 2023.
