Pastor Adeboye shares a personal story about being duped by a man who falsely promised to make him a commandant. The emotional account highlights the importance of trust and caution.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has revealed that his desire to lead a paramilitary group resulted in a substantial personal setback.
Many years ago, Adeboye fell for the scheme of a person who promised him an esteemed role and he recounted this anecdote.
The man presenting himself as a recruiter for a new paramilitary agency was successful in convincing him to invest in the venture, according to his statement.
Adeboye acknowledged that his inclination to fulfill a military role, stemming from his past fascination with the armed forces, resulted in him making an erroneous decision to trust the man – viewing it as a lapse in judgment and acting too hastily.
He recounted, “Once upon a time, I fell victim to the deceit of an individual who pledged to appoint me as head of a paramilitary faction. Through my secretary’s correspondence, he had been persistently communicating with me until one day when I agreed to meet him. He revealed that a similar organization akin to Boy Scouts had transformed into this contemporary agency and he was searching for someone capable of guiding it from spiritual aspects.”

Usually, I seek guidance from God before embarking on any endeavor. However, my fondness for the military during my youth overshadowed my intuition and prompted me to accept their offer of leading them. The imposter requested financial aid which I provided in good faith as the potential leader. It wasn’t until later that I discovered his deceitful ways.
He noted, however, that the experience gave rise to both the Redemption City corps and a nearby police post.
Thinking that I could fulfill my desire to join a paramilitary group, I rushed ahead of God’s plan. However, little did I know that Redemption City had already planned for its own corps of chaplains and local police post. Despite this setback, God knew the yearnings in my heart and orchestrated their fulfilment at His perfect timing. My attempt to hasten things led me down the wrong path resulting only in financial loss – a costly lesson learned considering others may have lost more valuable assets like life or loved ones under similar circumstances.
Afterward, I discovered that the man was a fraud. My eagerness to join a paramilitary organization caused me to rush ahead of God’s plans for Redemption City, where chaplains and local police were already in place. Although my heart yearned for such an opportunity, it wasn’t until His time had come that He made it possible. Wrongly assuming I could achieve this goal on my own led only to financial loss; others might have faced more dire consequences like losing their life or loved ones,” he reflected.
