Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has stated that clergymen and Christians would be held responsible if they end up dying in poverty.
Pastor Adeboye responded to the criticism that arose after Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church received a Rolls Royce as a gift for his 70th birthday.
At the Living Faith headquarters in Ota, Ogun State, during Oyedepo’s birthday celebration, the Bishop received a Rolls Royce and N1 billion as gifts.
The gesture has drawn criticism from a diverse range of Nigerians.

However, Pastor Adeboye mentioned that it is preferable to pass away wealthy rather than in poverty.
In a video message to his congregation, Pastor Adeboye remarked: “A bishop received a car as a gift and some individuals were outraged at the idea of him driving a Rolls Royce. It’s almost like they believe that becoming a bishop means you should live in deprivation.”
Let me share something with you, my dear children: if you pass away in poverty, people may judge and blame you. They might question how your devotion to God could lead to such an end. If you’re unable to pay your rent, they may wonder where your faith has brought you.
Should you unexpectedly begin to drive a Rolls Royce, you may face criticism from others. So, which would you rather choose? They’ll find something to attack regardless—whether you’re struggling in poverty or thriving in abundance.”
