Their visit was not unrelated to the building conflict within the ruling party.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore were spotted at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, more than a week after resigning from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Both men, however, left the Presidential Villa discreetly and did not brief the press.

It was unclear whether Adamu and Omisore met with President Bola Tinubu, who was in Kenya for the African Union’s Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting when both men resigned on July 17, 2023.

Their visit, however, was not unrelated to the building crisis inside the ruling party.

After a NWC meeting in Abuja last week Monday, APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, emerged as the party’s National Chairman and succeeded Adamu as the party’s chairman.

In a press conference following the NWC meeting, Kyari formally announced Adamu and Omisore’s resignations as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

According to Kyari, the APC’s Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, will function as acting National Secretary in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“At this point, the individuals have resigned voluntarily and that is what is available at this moment,” Kyari said of Adamu and Omisore’s resignations. Resignation reasons will be provided to you in the near future.”

On July 17, 2023, Adamu was absent from the NWC meeting, while Omisore walked out of the meeting at the party secretariat in Abuja.

The APC NWC meeting was presided over by Kyari, who represented Borno North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly.
