Senator Aisha Dahiru, also known as Binani, was proclaimed the victor of the Adamawa Governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), despite protests.
In the democratic history of Nigeria, Binani is now the country’s first female governor.
Results from 10 of the 20 local government regions had already been announced before the election was postponed until 11 a.m.
Yet one hour before the appointed time, Ari made the final announcement.
Prior to the announcement, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Ahmadu Fintiri held the position of leadership.
The INEC REC’s declaration of Binani as the victor was met with protests from several PDP supporters in the room.
The pronouncement that the returning officer was at fault had been made by the resident electoral commissioner.
