The Adamawa governor has directed civil servants to submit their certificates or risk losing their October salary. Read more about this important directive.

One of the northern governors, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, has ordered all state government officials to present original copies of their certificates when collecting their October salaries, a move that could put the jobs of over 7,000 officials at risk.

The order appears to be based on the recent exposure of a testimony scandal in various ministries, commissions and parastatals.

In a statement issued in Yola on Thursday, spokesman Fumuwasi Wonisouko stressed that the measure was not aimed at attacking anyone in particular but rather at restoring integrity to the civil service.

The Governor explained that the aim of the initiative is to ensure that qualified people get jobs and to prevent unqualified people from denying opportunities to the younger generation.

In this regard, the Governor said, “This measure is not aimed at witch-hunting anyone, but rather at ensuring the integrity of the system.” Fintiri also warned that employees who do not comply with the order will suffer losses. They will not be paid their October salaries until they submit their certificates.

He, however, assured workers that those who submit their certificates by the end of October will not be paid their wages.

The Governor’s decision reflects concerns that individuals are exploiting the failures of the system for personal gain. “These issues need to be addressed and the Ministry should be a haven of scholarship and integrity, not a haven for outsiders,” he said.
