Active service concludes for over 111 Army generals
113 generals in the Nigerian Army resigned on Tuesday.
There are 44 Brigadier Generals, 67 Major Generals, 1 Lieutenant General, and 1 General on the list.
At the Regimental Dinner Night in Abuja in honour of the Nigerian Army’s retiring and freshly retired senior officers, Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru commended the army for contributing to the nation’s democratic development.
According to Badaru, the Army has emerged as a model service for the rest of the region’s services, both within and outside of West Africa.
In a statement released on Wednesday by Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the minister asked the Army to uphold constitutional loyalty and promote the growth of democracy in the country.
“The minister charged members of the Armed Forces to remain loyal and sustain the culture of supporting democracy in Nigeria and across the shores,” the statement said in part.
“The Armed Forces’ attitude towards democracy has made it a shining example in West Africa and a force to be reckoned with in the community of nations,” he continued.
As the minister pointed out, the event gave the Nigerian Army a chance to consider its service and the deep commitment of the retiring and retired senior officers.
“He stated that every effort will be made by the Federal Government to enhance the welfare of active duty and retired personnel.”
Badaru also praised retiring and former Nigerian Army officers for their selfless dedication to maintaining national stability and their willingness to make sacrifices.
He promised to pay their pension on time.
Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the Minister of Defence for their unwavering support of the Nigerian Army.
He reiterated the NA’s unwavering allegiance to the President and the country in the performance of its constitutional duties, which include protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He counselled the senior officers who had retired to give thanks to God and the Nigerian Army for their successful tenure in the “noble profession of arms” and reaching the milestone of meritoriously leaving active duty.
