ACF: Northern Candidate Could Get Our Support in 2027 If Conditions Are Met

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) signals readiness to back a Northern presidential candidate in 2027, outlining specific conditions for endorsement. 

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), the leading socio-cultural organization in Northern Nigeria, has declared its backing for a presidential candidate from the North in the 2027 general elections.

The forum also committed to supporting Northerners running for various political positions nationwide.

The National Chairman of ACF, Mamman Mike Osuman, announced this statement during the forum’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the ACF Secretariat in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Osuman stressed the forum’s dedication to advancing the region’s interests, noting that unity and strategic collaboration among Northerners would be crucial for their success in the upcoming electoral cycle.

“There is an urgent and unmistakable call for personal sacrifices and efforts to ensure the survival of our region and liberate those who are oppressed,” Osuman stated.

A significant number of our brothers and sisters in the region have shown an interest in politics and are aiming for political offices by 2027. They are already concentrating on the elections set to take place that year.

Although politics is essential in our area, it’s crucial at this moment to acknowledge the challenges facing our region and make strategic efforts to alleviate the hardships affecting its people.

I empathize with their feelings. There’s no denying that the North is under siege right now. Our beloved region faces not only relentless attacks from bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers but also challenges like unfair treatment and biased considerations.

Recently, I received an invitation from a newly established group called the League of Northern Democrats (LND). Accompanying the invitation were seven pages containing a list of 260 names, mostly consisting of former Governors, Senators, and distinguished individuals hailing from the North.

I acknowledge that certain policies of the current administration are harmful and contrary to our region’s interests.

ACF holds that some of the policies and actions taken by our regional leaders require critical evaluation. With this in mind, I pose these questions: How well are our elected officials showing prudence and addressing domestic and environmental issues?

To what degree are our Governors and legislators working together with traditional leaders to address the issues facing our region?

Considering that some of our sons, daughters, sisters, and brothers occasionally engage in the unrest and crimes affecting our region what steps are we (LEADERS OF THOUGHT AND STAKEHOLDERS) taking to halt their negative tendencies?

Have our parents, religious leaders, and elites launched initiatives or public awareness campaigns to educate people on the importance of self-defense and self-preservation?
