The accreditation and evaluation of degree certificates from Benin Republic and Togo have been suspended by the Federal Government.
This decision was made in response to a report that revealed how individuals were obtaining degrees from a university in Benin Republic in less than two months.
The Ministry of Education’s spokesperson, Augustina Obilor-Duru, expressed concern over the use of unethical methods by some Nigerians to obtain degrees for job opportunities they are not qualified for. As a result, the Federal Ministry of Education has suspended the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from Benin and Togo Republics until further investigation is conducted.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, the ministries responsible for Education in the two countries, the Department of State Security Services (DSSS), and the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) will be involved in the investigation.
The ministry is urging Nigerians to provide information to assist the committee in finding long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The statement also highlighted the ministry’s ongoing efforts to address the issue of illegal institutions, both domestic and abroad, that target unsuspecting Nigerians. The ministry will continue to strengthen its strategies and take decisive action against any officials involved in such activities.
