During the hearing at the Kogi State Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja, four witnesses testified for the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Despite voting in different polling units, the witnesses’ accounts followed similar patterns.
However, cross-examination revealed visible contradictions that the witnesses struggled to explain.
One witness, Danlamin Abaji Yakubu, claimed to be an agent of the SDP during the election, while others denied being agents.

Yakubu, who identified as an SDP member, voter, and party agent, admitted under cross-examination that he had lost any evidence proving his role as an agent.
He also confessed that he did not write his deposition but instead explained it to his lawyer, who drafted it for him.
When questioned about the omission of the total number of accredited voters in his deposition, Yakubu attributed it to a typist’s mistake.
However, when asked to provide the correct number, he claimed not to know it.
Furthermore, when asked to confirm the number of registered voters in his polling unit, Yakubu responded by saying that he did not indicate in his deposition that he voted.
This response was contradictory to the question posed. Another witness, Abdulkareem Muhammed Ogeja, also from Ajaokuta, caused a mild drama during cross-examination.
Although he admitted to being an SDP member, he did not mention it in his deposition. He also confirmed that he was not the party’s agent during the election.
