The national chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and his family were reportedly taken to the hospital on Wednesday after a fire broke out at his home in Abuja.
Additionally, the party asserted that Abure, who had just re-elected to a second term in office, was the target of an assassination attempt.
The national publicity secretary for the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, verified this on Wednesday, April 3.
He claimed that while Abure and his family were asleep, a “mysterious fire” that broke out in his home just after one in the morning completely destroyed it.
A family member who related the story was cited in the statement as adding that the security guards and neighbors who lived in the property were the ones who woke them up.
According to the statement, Abure and his family were unable to flee since the fire had spread to the stairs, trapping the entire family.
But after neighbors and security personnel bravely broke one of the upstairs windows to allow the family to flee, it took divine intervention for the national chairman and his family to escape.
Shortly after Abure and his family were evacuated, men from the fire service arrived.
“Abure and his family were taken in for emergency care and are currently being treated at a private hospital. Nonetheless, their health is steady.
