Abuja Set for Major Blackout from January 6 to 21, AEDC Announces”
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announces a planned blackout in the capital from January 6 to 21 due to critical infrastructure upgrades.
From January 6 to 21, 2025, residents of Abuja will face major power outages due to significant infrastructure relocations planned by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
In an official statement shared on its X account, AEDC reported the disruptions, attributing them to the Federal Capital Development Authority’s (FCDA) project aimed at relocating both the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway.
The statement announced: “We would like to inform you that from January 6-21, 2025, there will be power outages as the FCDA works on relocating the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway.”
The areas anticipated to face outages include Lugbe and its surrounding regions, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village; National Stadium; Eye Clinic; Indoor Complex; Christ Embassy Church. They also cover the American International School as well as Spring Court and American Embassy Quarters. Additionally affected will be EFCC headquarters alongside Coca-Cola premises and Railway vicinity plus FMC area in addition to parts of Apo all through Gudu region extending into Gbazango encompassing Kubwa right across Bwari absorbing Jahi together with portions of Jabi amplifying around Karu intertwined within Nyanya combining Mararaba looping over Keffi while influencing other sections throughout Abuja.
“We apologize for any inconvenience and are grateful for your understanding,” AEDC stated in the announcement.
Residents in the impacted regions are encouraged to plan for potential disruptions and consider alternative power options if feasible.
