Abuja House Agent Stabbed to Death in N1,000 Argument

A house agent was tragically stabbed to death over a N1,000 dispute in Abuja, raising concerns about violence over minor disagreements.

In a tragic incident in the Federal Capital Territory, 44-year-old house agent Arogundade Gbenga, also known as Baba Ibeji, was fatally stabbed by a colleague during an argument over a N1,000 house rent inspection fee.

The incident took place on Friday at approximately 10 a.m. in Byazhin Across, Kubwa, within the Bwari Local Government Area.

Reports indicate that the situation intensified when the deceased allegedly slapped another agent, Ogbuabo Chibugo, who also operates a local chemist.

Incited by the attack, Chibugo responded by drawing a knife and stabbing Gbenga, ultimately causing his death.

There was a dispute over an inspection fee of N1,000 between Baba Ibeji and another agent, an Ebira man who operates a chemist in the area. The situation escalated when Baba Ibeji slapped him, causing the man to become enraged. In response, he drew out a knife and fatally stabbed Baba Ibeji.

The victim was urgently taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead. His body has been placed in the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.

“The source said that the suspect later fled to avoid being attacked by aggrieved residents.”

According to a security source, SaharaReporters learned that the suspect was later apprehended by police at someone’s residence where he had sought refuge following the incident.

“The police successfully apprehended the suspect at his hiding place shortly after the incident. They also escorted his wife away from the area,” stated a source.

Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Monday and stated that an investigation is now underway.

“The suspect has been arrested and detained. The case will be transferred to SCID for investigation,” she said.
