The Abuja explosion leaves many dead, with 14 vehicles burnt as hospitals struggle to handle the influx of victims. Police confirm the devastating impact.

The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has verified a tragic motor vehicle accident that took place on Wednesday just before Nyanya Bridge.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, reported that 14 vehicles had been burned.

While eyewitnesses reported that over 10 individuals had died, the police stated that six victims were extracted from the wreckage of burned vehicles and later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The PPRO stated that Karu Division received an alarming distress call on Wednesday evening about a horrifying scene.

She stated that a “Dangote trailer,” heavily loaded with cement, lost control as it was approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA and crashed into vehicles stopped in traffic.

The collision set fourteen vehicles ablaze in a fierce inferno. Panic and chaos ensued as bystanders and motorists hurried to find safety.

Emergency responders hurried to the location, braving dense smoke and extreme heat to save those trapped.

Six victims were extracted from the wreckage and transported to the hospital, but sadly, medical personnel on duty later confirmed them deceased. Their bodies have been placed in Karu General Hospital Morgue.

According to the statement, police officers, working alongside fire service teams, additional security agencies, and brave individuals present at the scene managed to control the blaze, allowing traffic flow to return to normal.

In the meantime, our correspondent learned that both the National Hospital and Asokoro Hospital are currently filled with victims from this unfortunate incident.
