Governor Abiodun, during a meeting with Mr. Onakoya, declared him as the Sports Ambassador of Ogun State, recognizing his remarkable achievements in the world of chess.
Impressed by Mr. Onakoya’s dedication and hard work, the governor praised his efforts and highlighted his role as an inspiration to the youth.
Additionally, Governor Abiodun announced the initiation of the State Chess Competition in honor of Mr. Onakoya, emphasizing the importance of promoting sports and encouraging young talents across the state.
Furthermore, the governor revealed plans for Ogun State to host the National Sports Festival in the near future, with chess being a prominent feature in the event.
As a gesture of appreciation and recognition, Governor Abiodun unveiled the Tunde Onakoya Prize, a sponsorship for the winner of the upcoming chess competition, solidifying Mr. Onakoya’s position as a key figure in the sports community of Ogun State.

Prior to this, Mr. Onakoya expressed his deep gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support on his journey to success, and expressed his pride in being a Nigerian.
He reflected on the challenges he faced while growing up, recognizing chess as a means to escape poverty and develop critical thinking skills.
Mr. Onakoya concluded by expressing his immense pride in being a Nigerian from Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, and expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from Nigerians worldwide, as well as the recognition bestowed upon him by the royal fathers and his Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor of his state.
