Alex Otti, a candidate for governor in Abia State for the Labour Party (LP), is sad about the death of Uche Ikonne, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who was running against him.

Otti said this in a statement that was signed by his media assistant, Ferdinand Ekeoma, and sent to Channels Television on Wednesday.

He also decided to stop campaigning for the rest of the week in honor of the late professor.

The LP governorship candidate regretted that death had taken Ikonne from his family and loved ones just a few days after he had issued a press release praying for and wishing him a speedy recovery. He recalled the exciting exchange of brotherly greetings they had during their last meeting at a public event.

“We cannot doubt God’s decision to call Prof. Ikonne back home at this time,” Otti added. “To learn that Prof. Ikonne has passed just a few days after we prayed and hoped for his rapid recovery and return to the campaign path is, to put it mildly, very regrettable.”

Otti told Ikonne’s family how sorry he was and asked God to give him eternal rest and give his family and loved ones the strength to deal with his death.
