The majority of the affected councils have cleaned up their previously filthy headquarters after the Abia State House of Assembly expressed concerns about the messy circumstances of local government secretariats in the State.

Last Monday, the Assembly adopted a resolution ordering the councils’ heads of service to trim back the high grasses that have overgrown on their property within a week.

The State’s House of Assembly Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, and his colleagues took a position on the issue raised by the Deputy Speaker, Austin Meregini, saying that the lawmakers found the situation intolerable.

The council secretariats have been freed of the overgrown bushes, according to a visit by OBASANJO NEWS24 on Monday to Umuahia North local government and other council offices in the state.

Additionally, trash piles in the council secretariats were seen to have been swept away so that the working employees could breathe fresh air.

The members of the Abia State House of Assembly were praised for their stand by a member of the Umuahia North LGA staff who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

According to the employee from Umuahia North, the LGA’s current outlook is better than it has been lately.

According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Austin Meregini, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, stated that it was necessary to “prevent looming danger within the various local governments and their surroundings” when he moved a resolution on an issue of urgent public significance.

Meregini had already issued a warning that the councils’ messy appearance might cause the Abia State administration to suffer humiliation.
