A member of the House of Representatives from Abia has defected from the PDP to join the APC. Learn more about the political realignment.
The Member of the House of Representatives representing Ukwa East/West, Abia State, Chris Nkwonta, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made by Speaker of National Assembly, Tajudeen Abbas, during a plenary session in Abuja on Wednesday.

Following Nkwonta’s defection, Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki, cited constitutional provisions and called for Nkwonta’s seat to be vacated.
Speaker Abbas, however, acknowledged the existence of factions within the PDP, suggesting the issue may not be so simple.
