According to the Abia State administration, compensation was given to property owners prior to the demolition that is currently taking place along the Ossah-Okpara Square axis of Umuahia.

Njum Onyemenam, the State’s Accountant General, revealed this to press on Thursday and stated that claimants who submitted accurate account information have already received compensation.

“As of right now, claimants have begun collecting their money, according to confirmations we have received.

The reimbursements have been made to claimants who have given us their current bank information, according to Onyemenam.

She encouraged claimants with old Diamond Bank accounts who would not have received their money to obtain new Access Bank account numbers so they could receive payouts.

The previous Diamond Bank account is not compatible with our payment platform, so those who are banking with it should visit their banks to get a new Access Bank account number, according to the AG.

However, she pointed out that many claimants have not supplied their information, and she said that as soon as they do, they will receive payment.

The government seeks to prevent situations where money is provided to the incorrect people, the Accountant General noted.

She suggested contacting the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), whose responsibility it is to forward their information to the AG’s office, if they have not yet received compensation.

Regarding the issue of public employee salary payments, the AG stated that her office had already started disbursing September salaries in accordance with Governor Alex Otti’s pledge to pay employees’ salaries on or before the 28th of every month. She also added that those who missed prior payments would be accommodated in the September salaries.

The Accountant General stated that a verification process would be conducted for pensioners while pointing out that they are the State government’s first priority.

But she assured him that it would take place in a stress-free environment.
