While ruling party lawmakers welcomed his move, the Deputy Minority Leader of the National Assembly… Aliyu Sani Madaki (NNPP, Kano) expressed concern and called for Nkwonta’s seat to be declared vacant under section 58 of the 1999 Constitution.
Madaki maintained that a member can only resign from a party if there is an internal crisis within the party for which he was elected.
Chairman Abbas responded by rejecting Madaki’s motion on the grounds that there are factions within the PDP that justify Nkwonta’s removal.
