The Abia State House of Assembly has given a warning to Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Ltd (IVM), indicating a possible cancellation of their contract due to alleged delays in vehicle production for the lawmakers.
During a press conference held on Thursday in Umuahia to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the 8th Assembly, Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa expressed disappointment over the unmet agreement, revealing that the legislators were still awaiting their vehicles a year after their inauguration.
Emeruwa pointed out that the decision to select IVM was influenced by Governor Alex Otti’s initiative to promote local manufacturers.
Despite having made full payment, Innoson has not met their obligation to deliver the vehicles, breaching their commitment on multiple occasions.
“Innoson has yet to fulfill their end of the deal. We are now considering terminating the contract and requesting a refund if there is no compliance within the next 15 days,” Emeruwa declared. “The Assembly is taking this matter seriously and will not tolerate any further delays.”
Reflecting on the Assembly’s accomplishments in the past year, Emeruwa mentioned that five out of fifteen proposed bills had been enacted into law. Furthermore, the Assembly has adopted 40 resolutions, and addressed 46 petitions and 55 motions.
Despite the ongoing situation with Innoson, Emeruwa stressed that the Assembly has been active and efficient, maintaining a cooperative relationship with the Executive branch.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the current Assembly, comprising 24 members, was inaugurated on June 15, 2023.
