Islamic cleric Idris Abdul’aziz, the chief imam of Dusten-Tanshi Jumma’ah Mosque Bauchi, has vehemently denied any involvement in threatening the life of the president’s wife, Oluremi Tinubu.
In his first public appearance after returning from self-imposed exile, Abdul’aziz clarified that he has no connection with her and doesn’t even know her correct name.
He emphasized that he has never made any comments about her husband, the president, let alone her.
The cleric firmly stated that he has absolutely no association with the president’s wife and believes that the allegations against him were part of a smear campaign orchestrated in Bauchi to create discord between him and the first lady.

He attributed the responsibility for this campaign to two specific groups.
Abdul’aziz strongly refuted the allegations, considering them an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
He challenged those responsible for the accusations to provide concrete evidence in the form of authentic video or audio recordings where he can be heard issuing threats against the president’s wife.
It is worth noting that in February, a viral video surfaced in which the Islamic cleric allegedly declared that Oluremi Tinubu deserved to die due to her Christian faith.
Additionally, he was accused of criticizing the Muslim-Muslim ticket that brought President Bola Tinubu to power, labeling it as a scam.
However, undeterred by the threat, the First Lady expressed her fearlessness in the face of death, stating that at the age of 64, she should not be afraid.
During her visit to Bauchi in March to inaugurate various projects, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed expressed his disappointment over the incident and deemed the threat unacceptable.
He offered his apologies to Mrs. Tinubu and assured her of her safety in the state, promising to take appropriate action against the cleric responsible for the threat.
