Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been re-elected as Algeria’s president for a second term, following a successful campaign that solidifies his leadership in the North African nation.
On Sunday, official results revealed that Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been re-elected as the President of Algeria after a resounding triumph.
According to Mohamed Charfi, the Algerian electoral commission’s leader, Tebboune – who currently holds office as president- has obtained a remarkable 94.65% of votes cast in favor of him.
5,320,000 voters out of 5,630,000 registered ones voted for Tebboune. Charfi highlighted the steps taken by the electoral commission to guarantee a just and transparent election procedure.
Abdelaali Hassani Cherif and Youcef Aouchiche, the other contenders in the competition managed to secure 3% as well as 2% of votes correspondingly. The overall voter participation rate stood at approximately 48%.
The integrity of the election results has been questioned by Cherif’s campaign team, who claim that polling station officials were compelled to exaggerate the vote counts.

Their assertion was that their data indicated a considerably greater number of votes for Cherif.
During the campaign, Tebboune received negative feedback from activists and universal organizations. Amnesty International disapproved of the “controlling climate” as well as purportedly censoring opposing figures, media sources, and societal groups.
Tebboune pledged to further improve the benefits for unemployment, pensions, and public housing during his campaign which were already increased in his initial tenure.
In 2019, he was elected amidst the “hirak” demonstrations that resulted in the ousting of President Abdulaziz Bouteflika who had been ruling for twenty years.
Calls for an end to corruption fueled the protests, which rallied hundreds of thousands of Algerians over the span of one year.
