George Abbey, a former defender for the Super Eagles, has praised the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) choice to appoint a foreign coach to lead the team.
Following the Super Eagles’ recent disappointing performances against South Africa and Benin Republic, the NFF declared earlier this month that it will name an expatriate to lead the team.
The West Africans defeated the Cheetahs 2-1 on the road and held Bafana Bafana to a 1-1 draw at home.
Nigeria has three points from four games, good for fifth position on the Group C standings.

Abbey added that the club would learn discipline from the hiring of a foreign coach.
George stated on Brila FM, “I think these players, especially the foreign-based players, need to respect the head coach.”
“At this time, I don’t see any head coach from the area who would demand the deference necessary to guide this club. Therefore, I think it’s the proper move to go seek for a skilled technical adviser who could lead this team in the right path, enforce discipline, bring in the right mindset, and maybe inspire these players to want to give their best for the national team by playing in the right style.
