Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunday Ubua’s request to be granted to bail in an appeal before the Abuja Court of Appeal was denied.

Ubua is a colleague of Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, the supercop who has been placed on administrative leave.

For drug-related offences, Ubua is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The appeal by Ubua was dismissed on Friday by a three-member panel of the appellate court, which also upheld Judge Nwite’s March 28, 2022 decision.

Due to the prosecution’s presentation of adequate evidence to the court on March 28, the court denied Ubua’s request for bail.

In the lead opinion, Judge Stephen Adah affirmed that the appellant should have provided new evidence to the court in order to support the court’s departure from Justice Emeka Nwite’s earlier ruling from the Federal High Court of Abuja.

On allegations of attempting to tamper with evidence and illegal drug selling, Ubua is on trial with Kyari and three other former members of the Nigeria Police Force special team.
