Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command, have detained three people in connection with the heist at the National Youth Service Corps lodging in the state.
Recall that the suspects broke into the lodge on Udo Ekong Ekwere Street, off Information Drive, in July and stole things belonging to the corps members, including laptops, cell phones, and cash.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, went to the crime scene with the NYSC Coordinator and promised to find the criminals.
In a statement released on Thursday, the command’s spokesman, Odiko Macdon, said that the suspects had been arrested after a thorough investigation by the command’s anti-robbery squad.
In a statement titled “Arrest of NYSC Lodge Robbers,” it is stated, in part, that “Recall that some time ago, on the 6th of July 2022, at about 01:30am to be precise, suspected armed robbers invaded the NYSC lodge, located at Udo Ekong Street, Off Information Drive in Uyo LGA, damaged the doors of the partially fenced building, and deprived Corpers of their phones, jewelry, physical cash, and other valuables.”
After a thorough investigation, the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Command arrested Aniefiok Okon Willie, also known as “Akpan Efa,” Iniobong Okon Eden, also known as “Orok,” and Joshua Bassey Asuquo, also known as “Sim Card” or “immortal,” who have been terrorizing the Aka Community and the area around it.
The suspects, who admitted carrying out the crime, made numerous shocking discoveries, according to the spokeswoman for the Command, including their participation in a fraternity and the existence of other members of their gang who are still at large.
