The US Secret Service has confirmed that on Sunday night, while Joe Biden was leaving his campaign offices in Wilmington, Delaware, a car crashed into one of the SUVs in his motorcade.

The president was outside the building about to get into his car, which First Lady Jill Biden was waiting for when there was a tremendous blast. The video shows that Biden was clearly taken aback by what had happened. Surprised, he halted and turned to face the source of the noise before Secret Service agents quickly bundled him into his car. According to NBC, the president exclaimed, “Woah,” at the time of the occurrence.

According to Secret Service spokesman Steve Kopek, “a Secret Service vehicle securing the president’s motorcade route was struck by another vehicle” at approximately 8 p.m. local time.

Kopek states that the Secret Service believes the incident was an accident since there was “no protective interest associated with this event.” He said, “The president’s motorcade left without a hitch.”

In Wilmington’s inclement weather, a silver automobile with Delaware licence plates collided with an SUV encircling Biden’s convoy at the crosswalk across from the campaign headquarters, according to Reuters, which cited a White House press pool story.

According to a witness who spoke with the agency, Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded the vehicle and brandished their weapons at the driver, who raised his hands.

After the event, he said, the Bidens made it back home to Wilmington without trouble.

The president and the first lady paid a visit to the Biden 2024 campaign headquarters, where they had a holiday happy hour and had dinner with the team. The crew has been operating out of the Wilmington office since the summer, and this is the first time the US president has paid them a visit.
