Egypt and China have strengthened their cooperation through the signing of agreements during President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi’s visit to Beijing.

El-Sissi, along with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, oversaw the signing ceremony with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The agreements were signed on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Egypt-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

Discussions between the Egyptian delegation and Chinese officials focused on bilateral relations and efforts to promote stability in the Middle East amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

The agreements cover various areas, including collaboration in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which involves Chinese companies undertaking transportation, energy, and infrastructure projects abroad.

China has made significant investments in Egyptian state projects, such as the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the new Administrative Capital near Cairo.

In 2023, investments between Egypt and China totaled around $14 billion, slightly lower than the $16.6 billion recorded in 2022, as reported by Egypt’s statistics agency.
